I thought about re-recording this one, but eventually realized I really like it just as-is. This was my "demo" of the song, recorded on the day that I wrote it, and that somehow fits the lyrics perfectly. I do find it hilarious. And oh so very sensible.
lyrics
I’m looking forward to my favorite band
Having a reunion, so I can poopoo it,
And say how much better they were back then
Before they sold out, to The Man
I have the first pressing, actually it was the demo
When no one knew but me, and only two friends
We used to see them at rehearsal
And they were nice to us sometimes
I got to open for them once
You know, we didn’t get a sound check
And their manager was kind of an asshole
That’s when we knew that it was all going wrong
I liked their early stuff
I liked their early stuff
I liked their early stuff
I liked their early stuff
Before they sold out to The Man
At some point the singer when batshit
Now he's into Q-anon or some shit
Colonizing space, I reckon
On a crystal magic farm,
It's funny,
Back when we were kids,
He was totally rad
He did backflip stage dives
And always landed on the beat
It was neat
I liked their early stuff
I liked their early stuff
I liked their early stuff
I liked their early stuff
Before they sold out to The Man
Play a guitar solo, how cliched
Except if it's ironic, and casting shade
Listen, when punk rockers got beards,
That was the end of it,
I saw my greatest punk hero guitar player
sniffing coke backstage
(who?)
and talking about his investments
and this is a true story
Might as well take the cigaret money now,
What's the difference?
They paid for the tour bus
We're winning
Crushed it at the merch table
Text me, sure, friend me, who are you?
The girl who did the interview is cute
Listen, we need to talk about your drummer,
He just isn't right for the "look" anymore, you feel me?
We'll do lunch
Warner is "interested!"
(oh, right)
Love you, we go way back,
(no)
God is dead
(stop that)
It's bigger than the Beatles
(dude!)
Do have any more of that stuff?
I can pay you after
(no, no)
Thank you for all of your support!
(get out)
I'll shoot you my podcast from rehab
(whatever)
Yeah, we're getting divorced
(what a surprise!)
I'm doing some soundtrack stuff now
Video games, stuff like that
Look me up when you're in LA,
(ok)
but don't really
I liked their early stuff
I liked their early stuff
I liked their early stuff
I liked their early stuff
Before they sold out to The Man
I'm a guitarist and singer-songwriter with The Uptones. These are my solo recordings, starting from 2015. I started Berkeley
Cat Records in 2019. BandCamp is the first place I publish these puppies, before I send them into the streaming wilds. Wait, you ask, Berkeley Cat Records has puppies? Why yes, Matilda. Thanks for popping in, hope you enjoy the tunes!...more
